Lack of Support

I was surprised that there was not a lot of support or help on the internet for those of us who are on the Autoimmune Paleo Diet and who are also pregnant.  So this is my feeble attempt to voice that women are doing the diet and are having healthy pregnancies and babies!  I am now in my 6th month of pregnancy.  I was on the AIP diet for 9 months before I was pregnant and have continued to be on the diet all the way through.  I do have an autoimmune disease (Hashimoto's and psoriasis) and have not seen any reversal of my disease while pregnant.  I have been following a strict AIP diet - when I go into gray areas, I tend to get sick.  I am blessed to have a good doctor who has been managing my thyroid and listening to my symptoms and adjusting dosing as needed.  I have felt great this pregnancy due to this help and the diet.  This is my 6th pregnancy.  For previous pregnancies I did not have the Hashi diagnosis and felt so deadly tired and sleepy. I can tell when my thyroid is off, because I can feel that Hashi tiredness take over - the existence that I have known for far too long in my life.  I look forward to blogging more on myself and how this pregnancy is going in order to help others not feel as alone as I have during this pregnancy  journey.

  1. Hi, I would like to know more about your AIP diet while pregnant. I have 6 children and am pregnant again. I have been on an AIP diet for one year. Were you able to stick close to your diet, did you carry to term? Was your baby healthy? I wish I knew better what t o expect. I want to eat well but make sure the baby gets everything it needs. I suffer from hypothyroidism and Hidradenitis Supperativa.

  2. I am pregnant and struggling to stay on the AIP diet. I was strictly AIP for a year before becoming pregnant with no problem. I had no issues with cheating or straying from AIP. But I am finding it too hard! My body is not pleased at all with my normal foods and I find myself craving seeds, nuts and legumes, even oats. I finally had to give in and eat hummus. I had sailed through the transition and commitment to AIP with ease and it's so confusing now. I feel like I am battling between what I think I should do and what my body is asking for. I will say that a year AIP and my TPO antibodies have stayed consistently high. 3 months pregnant and they are as low as I have ever seen them.

  4. HI Jessica,

I know this is hard. I went off my AIP in hopes of improving my chance of caring my babies to term but I lost them. I found out I am very allergic to nuts, I ate lots during other pregnancies and while nursing. I had no idea that they were making my skin problem worse. I found a great "Roarsted Cauliflower Hummus" recipe at www.strictlydelicious.com/roasted-cauliflower-hummus-paleo-aip-vegan/
I really like it. Keep searching out new recipes, variety helps in sticking to the diet. Also cook/bake in huge batches and freeze some for when you are too tired to cook. There are some great recipes out there. I made a soup the other day with pumpkin puree to give the illusion of tomato soup base with ground beef, carrots and turnips in place of potatoes. My husband never even noticed it was AIP. The turnips worked well as a potato substitute. I don't know which site it was on. I have to run, but wish you the best with your pregnancy. DO your best to eat well. God Bless you and little one.
